Feeling More Naughty Than Nice? Check out the Hellfire Club

Steampunk Journal Editor Matt Grayson is extremely pleased to announce that his Indiegogo campaign has gone live and is available for people to view and
pledge. The culmination of months of research, networking and preparation have come to a head and now he needs the help of the steampunk community.

If you don’t know the Steampunk Journal, it’s a lot like my counterpart across the pond and you should definitely check it out. Matt and I started our sites within a couple months of each other, and we both love to do reviews, editorials, and interviews about Steampunk, but most importantly, we both want to support the Steampunk community and see it continue to grow.

Grayson’s The Hellfire Club isn’t just another site of naked girls. It will be a gallery of creative photography by some of the best steampunk photographers in the country. Shoots will be up to artistic nude and feature all genders with the only restriction being that models must be aged 18 and over. This reinforces British steampunk as a wholly inclusive, all-welcoming community. Check out the steamy preview shots here.

Pledges on Indiegogo are most welcome and the perks involved are pretty sweet. They start at £10 which gives you a discounted month of access to the site once it’s up and running, then rises through to £150 for a year’s access and creative input into a shoot.

Companies can also get involved with the Special stages, such as a £350 pledge giving 12 months access to the site and sponsorship of three shoots. Up to £1000 pledge gives full creative control over a shoot with full brand placement and a feature in Steampunk Journal!

Steampunk on Kickstarter, Nov. 2016

The Time Traveler’s Trilogy, Ends Dec. 20

It’s 1815, and Wellington’s badly-outnumbered army stares across the field of Waterloo at Napoleon’s forces. Desperate to hold until reinforcements arrive, Wellington calls upon a race of monsters created by a mad scientist 25 years before.

It’s 1815, and a discontented young lady sitting in a rose garden receives a mysterious gift: a pocket watch that, when opened, displays scenes from all eras of history. Past…and future.

It’s 1885, and a small band of resistance fighters are resorting to increasingly extreme methods in their efforts to overthrow a steampunk Empire whose clockwork gears are slick with its subjects’ blood.

Are these events connected?

Oh, come now. That would be telling…

Steampunk Universe: A diverse steampunk anthology featuring aneurotypical and disabled characters ends Nov. 6.

coverWe keep getting told that steampunk is not diverse. We want to keep proving them wrong.

Two and a half years ago, we brought you the award-winning anthology Steampunk World, a diverse collection of steampunk fiction. Since then, there have been a number of other prominent anthologies and works of diverse steampunk fiction. That is exactly what we hoped would happen.

But it is not enough.

We want to see even more diversity. We want to see characters like all our friends and all the members of our families. We want fully developed characters in steampunk – and all fiction – who are disabled or aneurotypical. We want more than “token” characters, and clichéd plots.

We were told it was too hard – especially in a genre like steampunk.

We are going to prove them wrong again…and we want you to join us.

My Favorite Reward: $20 pledge gets you a printed copy the anthology, plus digital copies across multiple platforms and a bonus short story anthology by my friend Andrew Knighton.

Cyan Eyed, Ends Nov. 4

Watch the video:

It was in the first quarter of 2013, as production of my animated short film, The Rose of Turaida, was coming to an end, I was deciding what to do next. I then though about wanting to do something exciting with lot’s of energy, something that looks really cool. Cyan Eyed is a swashbuckling steampunk adventure that focuses on a rescue attempt, using visually spectacular action sequences. The title of Cyan Eyed is in fact an anagram of ‘eye candy’, and that is exactly what we are making: an awesome looking film that will leave a memorable lasting impression.

Tinkerbits Steampunk Meeples (Tabletop Gaming), Ends Aug 21

Meeples are iconic in the tabletop gaming world.  They have many uses and are great little tactile toys.  Giving them a Tinkerish steampunk twist is something that we’ve wanted to do for a couple of years.  They started in Carcassonne, but meeples can find a home almost anywhere.

As for offering them in metal, well, that’s just one of the things that we enjoy.  There’s just something nice about the heavier, solid feel of metal game components, and they bring a certain panache to the table.  It’s not necessary for them to be metal to be playable, and yes, they are more costly than wood or plastic, but we think it’s worth it.

Time Flies: Levitating Nixie Clock, Ends Aug. 19

Watch the Video:

Nixie clock

From an early age we are aware of the laws of physics and their effect on how the world around us behaves. If we pick up an object, it has weight. If we place it on another object, such as a table, shelf or the floor, it will rest upon it. If we drop it, it will fall. We become so used to this behaviour that any exception is a surprise and delight. Remember the first time you saw a helium filled balloon, straining to escape, fighting the ties of gravity? Even though levitated objects have become increasingly common, there is still the air of magic about them.  When the levitated object is radiating energy you know it cannot be generating in itself, the illusion of magic is complete…

Wrath of AnnaI grew up playing competitive games at the highest level, and I have been actively developing Wrath of Anna since July 2015 (utilizing Unreal Engine 4). My name is Michael L. Fiorentino Gutierrez (a.k.a. hamtaro in the gaming world) and I’m presenting to you a competitive FPS with brutal 5 on 5 competitive play alongside other small and large scale combat modes. I have self funded the game up to this point with a small amount of private assistance, and I’m here now to utilize Kickstarter to raise extra funds mainly through pre-orders.  These funds are important and will help provide a more advanced multiplayer early access experience. The early access focuses on multiplayer gameplay; with additional episodic campaigns planned for later release.

Stars of Empire, Ends Aug 11

Stars of Empire bugsIn 2016, a game publisher called Black Pigeon Press and I put out a Victorian Science Fiction Role Playing game titled Stars of Empire. We used their game engine and my Hive, Queen, and Country (HQC) setting. This fusion provided gamers with a tabletop experience where they could be challenged by the story and not by the rules. Unfortunately Black Pigeon Press closed its doors. Instead of letting the Hive, Queen and Country Universe just die I formed Aerolyth Enterprises LLC and began self publishing. With the help of a number of friends and a successful Kickstarter we’ve been able to produce a miniatures game and two source books. Now we would like to come full circle. With your help we will produce two core books, one for Referees and one for Players.

This is why we are aiming to create the pilot.

Between 2012 and 2014, we four musicians converged over a set of common grievances.  The world in which we live sharply divided between “entertainment” and “art” with little room for overlap.  It often felt like there was a vast ‘no-man’s land’ in between high opera and it’s closest relative, musical theater.  Compelling pieces that appeal to modern sensibilities that are performed with a high caliber of vocal training and are few and far between.  “Where are the mainstream operas?” Friends would ask.  “We can have exciting, relate-able, stories with twists and turns AND beautiful singing with songs we want to hum, can’t we?”

Silent Meridian – Steampunk & Time Travel, Ends May 13

The Story

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is obsessed with a legendary red book. Its peculiar stories have come to life, and rumors claim that it has rewritten its own endings. Convinced that possessing this book will help him write his ever-popular Sherlock Holmes stories, he takes on an unlikely partner, John Patrick Scott, known to most as a concert musician and paranormal investigator. Although in his humble opinion, Scott considers himself more of an ethereal archeologist and a time traveler professor.

Together they explore lost worlds and excavate realms beyond the knowledge of historians when they go back in time to find it. But everything backfires, and their friendship is tested to the limits. Both discover that karmic ties and unconscionable crimes have followed them like ghosts from the past, wreaking havoc on the present and possibly the future.

Silent Meridian reveals the alternate histories of Conan Doyle, H.G. Wells, Houdini, Jung and other notable luminaries in the secret diaries of a new kind of Doctor Watson, John Patrick Scott, in an X Files for the 19th century. Stay tuned for A Pocketful of Lodestones; book two in the Time Traveler Professor series by Elizabeth Crowens.

Modis – YA Steampunk Novel, Ends May 22

I’m excited about this story, and sharing it with others, so let’s start with what it is. The Modis is an action filled steampunk adventure set in early 1800’s England. It is about a boy, with an unusual gift, and a drive to be reunited with his sister. Along the way, he meets a motley array of characters, some warm, and others who are downright dangerous. More than just an adventure, this story carries with it some wonderful and challenging history, and the characters deal with some big issues. What happens when we magnify our internal issues into the physical realm and add in some high stakes peril? A wildly entertaining romp through the revolution of early Industrial England…

Fresh from our successful No Dice Kickstarter we have another creative little game. Score points by rolling a die. Simple, yes? Not if you can trade up to a d8 or a d10, or double your score every turn. 60 is a combination of card and dice game in a 2oz tobacco tin.

Each player holds two cards (one if there are 5 or 6 players) and draws one more per turn. They must then play one of the cards in front of them either to benefit themselves or to hinder another player. Finally, rolling to score points for their turn, play passes to the next person.

Draw, Play, Roll, Score. It’s that simple…
