Penny Dreadful Comes to Netflix

That’s right friends, you can now watch Penny Dreadful with Netflix rather than curse at your cable package for not carrying Showtime. I started it last night and it was amazing. Plus, the perfect thing to get me into a spoooOOOoooky mood for the world’s best holiday, Halloween! In only the pilot I already came face to face with vampiric ghouls and a very mad scientist obsessed with animating the dead.

In case you’ve never heard of this lovely little ode to the gory and the gothic, check out the trailer.

  1. This show is AMAZING! I’m on episode 5 and I’m completely addicted!😃 I hope they add the third and final season soon. Netflix is doing really well. First with their original shows like Daredevil and Stranger Things, and now getting the rights to Penny Dreadful. It so worth $8.99 a month!

    • I heard once a while back the world has been divided into two spheres: those with Netflix and those without. That probably has shifted a bit since Amazon Prime created a whole new faction, but I agree that Netflix is amazeballs. So many good shows!!!

I am squeamish and avoid excessive gore, but Miss Plumtartt and I made it through the first episode. We enjoyed it. Mainly because of Eva Green and Timothy Dalton.

BTW- On your recommendation, we finally got around to watching ‘The Warriors Way’. Though a bloodbath, it was comical enough to make it palatable. I thought the CGI lent itself very well to giving the film a Japanese technicolour movie/play vibe.

    • I just watched the second episode of Penny Dreadful last night, and fair warning, they do up the…salacious aspects of the show. If you watch, make sure you and Miss Plumtartt are ready to cover your peepers in the last minute or so, it gets gory. And I agree about Warrior’s Way, there is a high body count and a lot of violence, but it is very stylized violence so it is easier to swallow

  3. Wow, that looks very intriguing, and seriously creepy. I’ve heard of Penny Dreadful before, but for some reason I thought it was a Western series. After seeing the trailer, I think I have to at least watch the pilot.
