Steampunk inspiration and resources

Another Autumnal Altered Canvas

Hello friends!

Okay, so this one isn’t overtly Steampunk, but it is inspired by the botanical illustrations of the Victorian era. In a time before one could put the word “gourd” into a search engine and be inundated by thousands of beautiful images, artists painstakingly recorded every minute detail of a variety of plants and flowers in etchings and water colors. My botanical altered canvases are an homage to these incredible artists, but using different materials and techniques. I hope you enjoy my newest tribute to this beautiful time of year, even though there aren’t any gears on it. 🙂

This piece is 8″ x 10″ x .5″, and the gourd extends an additional .5″ off the canvas. I have been holding onto those lovely glass beads that serve as the leave on the vine for years, so I was happy to finally figure out just the right use for them. I used a mix of papers from Recollections and my newest stack by Craft Smith.
