I Just Finished My First Shadow Boxes!

Hello friends!

I mentioned in my Steampunk sticker design post that I am on the verge of launching a Kickstarter campaign to make my meme-age dream of a Steampunk zine come to life (say that 5 times fast!), and as an incentive to a few lucky backers I will be offering original artwork. Here is a taste of what there is to come!

This shadow box can hang on a wall, but the back is also covered and the base is large so it can also stand on a shelf. It measures 8” x 8”.

Best Remnants Shadow Box

This is a smaller and simpler design that measures 8” x 6”. This one can’t stand on its own, but I have more of those papers left and I will be doing a square one like the one above out of some of the same materials in the next week or so.

I can’t decide if it is better to make shadow boxes that can do double duty on a shelf or if that is a waste of time.

What do you think? Do you like the deep square frame or the smaller and narrower frame better?

For more of my artwork you can check out my clock post here.

I like both but I think I prefer a deeper box as it would provide more shadows to play within the frame. I really like the wire ornament that hangs past the frame on the shallow box, and I could see the deeper one either on the wall or a mantle/shelf.

    • Oohh, a mantle! I hadn’t even though of that! I was thinking on a book shelf but an ornamental mantle would be even better. 🙂

I agree with the other commenter. Both are amazing, but I lean towards the square one. I’d love one of those on my bookshelf. Or the wall behind my writing space. So cool!

  3. I prefer the smaller one, but I’m not familiar with shadow boxes so may missing the benefits of the bigger one.
